What happens when three friends freestyle rap in 2020? SOUP, of course. Andrew Kober brought his chillhop beat to my studio (we call it Studio 5 because I have version 5 of Studio One). We were feeling goofy, so I hopped on the mic first. And I rapped in a nonsense voice. A voice like I had something stuck in the back of my throat about to cough. Perhaps I was impersonating a mumble rapper. Well, Omar Barazanji disputed my claim that “I know how to rap, I know how to rap” in his own verse. His line “making marijuana dinner soup\ everyday I’m cooking in that tomato sauce” inspired the title of the E.P. and song.
Andrew’s verse rounded out the recording for that day. We even broke Seth Kinsaul’s mic virginity! He was nervous to say much, but contributed the line, “Forgot to take my meds!”
